The sanctuary of the monarch butterfly el Rosario (the rosary) is the largest in the world, which has colonies of up to four hectares  they are  also very dense colonies that are mostly concentrated in the valley of Las Blasitas and Los Conejos.

Currently, is visited by 150 thousands of tourists each year, of which 5% are foreigners from 57 countries. It can be visited from mid- November to late March.

The  Sanctuary El Rosario is managed by 261 local  farmers and the revenue that they collect is used to pay salaries and invested in a new infrastructure , to buy fertilizers and social works as well.

To claryfing that today, the farmers no longer have revenue logging since they were decreed 930 hectares, from 2600.

The economy of El Rosario has the most important center of touristic attention for the biosphere reserve of monarch butterfly.

Population  is of nearly 7 thousand habitants in a area of four blocks. It has one school in each basic grade level, and who wants to attend the higschool  level they  needs to travel to Angangueo, Ocampo and Zitacuaro  which are the nearest towns .
